PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is a treatment derived from your own blood platelets to enhance hair growth. PRP contains a number of growth factors which stimulate cell repair and damage control, recruiting new hair growth. In the field of cell therapy and tissue regeneration research is continuing to progress regarding the use of PRP’s ability to attract, stimulate and orchestrate stem cell activity to improve wound healing and naturally rejuvenate skin and hair follicles. PRP, which also contains a number of stem cells itself, has been successfully used throughout a large variety of medical specialties (Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, Dental & Facial Reconstruction, Neurosurgery, Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, etc.) for tissue regeneration and repair and to help patients avoid surgery or other risky interventions.

The PRP serum is delivered into the scalp with small needles by which stimulating follicles and improving the number of hairs per follicle, resulting in thicker, healthier hair. Cytokines and growth factors locked within the platelets can be concentrated and released, then injected into the areas of alopecia (hair loss), stimulating hair regrowth.

This is a comfortable procedure that takes less than one hour to perform. Patients may resume all activities, including workouts, normal course of daily living, etc. immediately afterwards as there is no recovery phase. Mild soreness and redness of the scalp, if any, resolves in less than a day and improved hair growth can be measured in a matter of weeks.

It takes 3 to 5 injections approximately one month apart for maximum hair growth results. Unfortunately, the hair follicle-stimulating results of PRP treatment for hair regrowth is NOT permanent. Most patients who undergo PRP require a repeat treatment in about 12-24 months. PRP may need to be repeated depending on the patient’s response to therapy, hair loss condition, adjunctive treatments and goals. The addition of other therapies discussed below can help maintain and extend the results.
